What is your highlight of July in sport?
My favourite month of the year in sport is without a doubt
July. The good horse racing is
over, the NRL is midway through and origin gets wrapped up. The TV remote will get a workout and my sleep patterns will
be awful, with a host of international events.
The finals at Wimbledon start to get serious and this year I
have looked good from a tipping point of view, as I tipped Lleyton Hewitt and
Nicole Vaidisova for the titles. By
the time this article is printed, both of them may be eliminated, but at least
they gave a good sight.
My favourite TV event the tour de France is going to be run
and won, and this year the Australian contingent have a great chance, Cadel
Evans and Michael Rogers are favoured to finish on the podium for the yellow
jersey and as always Robbie McEwen and Stuart O'Grady will feature in the green
sprinters jersey.
The British open golf for men will also feature this month,
and again Australia has a massive chance of getting a good result, with most of
our players in form and racing up the world rankings. A massive achievement for a sport that receives absolutely no
Government funding, something I find to be unbelievable.
Soccer has a major event in the form of the Asia Cup and
Australia is favourites, and finally, my personal favourite the Bledisloe Cup
will be decided. After seeming a distant
hope only 3 weeks ago, Australia have a chance of winning and bringing the cup
back home where it belongs.
